Listen help
The Listen button uses the voice that is already on your phone or computer, like a GPS app reading directions. Nothing is recorded or sent.
Why can it stay silent, or sound different?
- Your device has no voice installed for this language (often Arabic or Turkish on Windows with Chrome).
- Your device only has a woman's voice for this language. We choose a man's voice when there is one, and you can pick any voice yourself in the “Voice” menu next to the Listen button.
- The voice is still downloading. Wait a minute and try again.

How to add a (man's) voice
Quickest on Windows
Open this site in Microsoft Edge. Edge brings voices for all four languages, including men's voices.
Windows
- Settings → Time & language → Speech.
- Under “Manage voices”, choose “Add voices”.
- Pick the language (Arabic, Dutch, Turkish) and install it.
- Close the browser completely and open the site again.
iPhone and iPad
- Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices.
- Choose the language, then download a man's voice (for Arabic: Maged; for Dutch: Xander).
- Come back to the site and reload the page.
Mac
- System Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content.
- Next to “System voice”, choose “Manage Voices…”.
- Tick a man's voice for the language and download it, then reload the page.
Android
- Open Settings and search for “Text-to-speech”.
- Tap the settings of the Google engine → Install voice data.
- Choose the language and pick a man's voice if one is offered, then reload the page.
Menu names can differ a little between versions. Quran words are always best heard from Sheikh al-Husary's audio buttons, not from the device voice.
